Niagara Falls participates in annual Terry Fox Run

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

It’s hard to imagine that what began 30 years ago by a young man in an act of defiance against Cancer would now stretch across the Globe as one of the largest fundraising events in the World.  This weekend, cities across the World including Niagara Falls will put feet to pavement for the annual Terry Fox Run.  A Canadian icon, Terry Fox captured hearts with his Marathon of Hope, a run that he planned to take him from coast to coast to raise funds for Cancer research, a run that would tragically end when lung Cancer would force him to stop.

The fall tradition is held on the second Sunday of the month following Labour day, chosen by Terry to mark when his heroic run had to end and when Canadians had to start.  This year’s run will be held on September 19, 2010 at Oakes Park and will mark its 29th year.    The fundraising campaign kickoff will begin with a barbeque at City Hall on Wednesday with proceeds to the Terry Fox Foundation.  To date the Terry Fox Foundation has raised more than $500 million towards the fight to end Cancer.

Massimo Capra

Massimo Capra - Rainbow Dining Room

Celebrated Chef and TV Host Massimo Capra is set to bring his impressive culinary resume to the legendary Rainbow Room Fallsview Restaurant in Niagara Falls.

Most often recognized as the host of the Food Network’s popular series “Restaurant Makeover”, Capra, has helped guide the spectacular Fallsview restaurant through renovations and rebranding.   Located across from the Falls on the 10th floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel Niagara Falls-Fallsview, the Rainbow Room features panoramic views of the Falls and offers more than 80 years of elegance.  The long and storied history includes playing host to both Hollywood Royalty and Heads of State-everyone from the Jonas Brothers to King George VI and Queen Elizabeth have dined at the restaurant.

Massimo Capra’s Rainbow Room Fallsview Restaurant will be an exciting adventure in culinary arts and will provide guests with an unforgettable dining experience across from the Falls.  The Rainbow Room’s culinary philosophy is to showcase the extraordinary ingredients and award winning wines from the richly diverse Niagara Region.  With that in mind, Chef Massimo and Crowne Plaza Executive Chef Damian Harrington have created a fresh market menu that carries substantial international flair and several of Massimo’s signature dishes.    To round out the dining experience, the team enlisted Tony Aspler, Canada’s foremost authority on wines to select the vintages that will be featured on the restaurant’s extensive wine list, who, in turn placed a strong emphasis on selections from the Region.

To Welcome Chef Massimo to the Rainbow Room, the Crowne Plaza Hotel Niagara Falls-Fallsview is offering a special introductory rate of $79.00 that includes one night hotel accommodations and a $40 Fallsview Dining Gift Card valid at Massimo Capra’s Rainbow Room Fallsview Restaurant.

Massimo Capra’s impressive resume includes his roles as executive chef and co-owner of two well established Toronto restaurants: Mistura and Sopra Upper Lounge, distinguished author, host and guest expert on numerous television programs.

The Rainbow Room Fallsview Restaurant’s exceptional history dates back to the opening on July 1, 1929 as the hotel restaurant at Niagara Falls first luxury hotel, the General Brock Hotel which would later become the Brock Plaza Hotel before joining the InterContinental Hotels Group and re-branding as the Crowne Plaza Hotel Niagara Falls-Fallsview.  Situated in the heart of the tourist district, and on the 20 Falls Avenue Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada, the Crowne Plaza features indoor walkways to Casino Niagara, Fallsview Indoor Waterpark and the numerous dining and attraction options on North America’s Largest Hotel and Indoor Waterpark Entertainment Complex.
