Falls Avenue Resort Culinary Series Continues with Celebrity Chefs

Monday, September 30th, 2013

NFH_Culinary_260x270The culinary stars have aligned once again and are shining on the Falls Avenue Resort.  The 20 acre Niagara Falls hotel, attraction and entertainment complex is continuing with a series of culinary showcases and events that will highlight the Resort’s two celebrity chefs and select winery & brewery partners.

Niagara Culinary Experiences is a series designed to inspire foodies and inner chefs with intimate meet and greets and dinners with celebrity chefs Jamie Kennedy and Massimo Capra.  Each has opened a spectacular Fallsview Restaurant on the Resort, Windows by Jamie Kennedy at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel and the Rainbow Room by Massimo Capra at the Crowne Plaza Niagara Falls – Fallsview.

“We are very excited to re-introduce this series after a summer break, and see it as a showcase for Niagara.  We have three events planned for the Fall/Winter of 2013 and know that they are going to be very successful, our guests love the chance to get to know Jamie and Massimo” said Sarah Vazquez, Vice-President of Marketing and Business Development for Falls Avenue Resort.  “We’ve been working on perfecting these evenings, so that when a guest leaves us they can take not only the experience but the knowledge and expertise of our celebrated guests”

The first event of the series is an intimate October Beerfest with Jamie Kennedy and features a Niagara Harvest Menu with pairings from two new local artisanal breweries (Oast House Brewers and Silversmith Brewing Company).  The event also features a stand-up cocktail reception with beer and cider aperitifs.  As with each event, guests will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with the recognizable Chef.  The event at Windows by Jamie Kennedy at the Sheraton on the Falls is set for Friday, October 25, 2013.

The second event of the series introduces Massimo Capra as a culinary guide through Italy.  “An Evening in Tuscany with Massimo Capra” on November 8, 2013 will feature wine pairings from the prestigious Antinori Winery of Florence Italy.  One of the oldest wine producers in the World, Antinori winery celebrated its 625th anniversary in 2010.

The series will wrap 2013 with a Heritage Farmhouse Christmas at Windows by Jamie Kennedy in early December, and will continue with events through spring 2014.  Hotel Packages featuring Fallsview accommodations are available, as are Dinner and Pairing only Tickets.

GranFondo Made An Impression On Niagara Falls

Monday, September 16th, 2013

Cycling has hit Niagara and it left an impression!

It was great to see the citywide excitement across Niagara Falls this past weekend.

Almost 1000 cyclists, great friendships and memories were created. Our Mayor was happy to see the results for the first year and would like to GranFondo return back to Niagara Falls every year.

Great community support! With the beautiful bike trails across the Niagara Region, we should be proud to host such an event.

Organizers did it right,” Diodati said. “They made sure they are building on solid foundation before they put too many floors on it. I think for the next few years this event will become one of our marquee, signature, blockbuster events.”

At Sheraton on the Falls we look forward to GranFondo returning to Niagara and becoming an annual event.

Thank you to the cyclists who registered and the organizers of GranFondo doing a great job!

The Official Course of GranFondo Niagara Falls

Wednesday, September 4th, 2013

granfondoshirtGranFondo Canada has announced the official course for the inaugural GranFondo Niagara Falls.

After three years of planning, the route for the September 14 ride has been finalized.

The 125 km event starts at the Falls and runs north along the Niagara Parkway into Niagara-on-the-Lake.

From there, participants will turn around and ride south to Portage Rd., heading west towards the Thorold Tunnel before doing a loop around Short Hills Provincial Park. The ride will then return to the Parkway for the final 10 km push to the finish in Niagara Falls.

Officials estimate between 2,000 and 3,000 cyclists will take part in the ride, which also passes through Thorold and Pelham.

The ride will require many roads, including the Niagara Pkwy. and Thorold Tunnel, to be closed for the entire duration of the ride.

“To create the safest environment for cyclists and motorists, traffic modifications will be in effect along the course,” said Lindsay Carswell, director of marketing at GranFondo Canada. “Motorists that need to travel on September 14 are advised to plan ahead as there will be complete closures and many delays.”

Carswell said the best routes for travelling through Niagara on event day are the QEW and Hwy. 406.

“Using these routes will get most drivers to where they need to go,” she said. “Always use caution around cyclists and obey traffic authorities.”

Road closures will also be made known through resident mailouts and door-to-door campaigns. Roadside signage will also be posted closer to the event.
