The Mackenzies - Sheraton on the Falls

“The Sheraton on the Falls honours 65^th Wedding Anniversary by matching room rates from 1945”

Alastair and Helen Mackenzie have celebrated major milestones at the 4-Diamond Sheraton on the Falls in Niagara Falls Ontario, but this trip marks an exceptional accomplishment – their 65^th anniversary.

The anniversary celebration is also a return for the couple who first stayed at the fallsview hotel in 1945 on their honeymoon.

A lot has changed in Niagara Falls since that stay.  Two Casino’s have been constructed, 3 waterpark’s have been built, and countless hotels and guestrooms have been added to the landscape.  Even their hotel has changed, having expanded and joined Starwood Hotels and Resort as the Sheraton on the Falls.

What has remained throughout is the commitment the pair made to each other.  The Mackenzie’s, who met while at school in 1938 have returned to the hotel on several occasions including a stay for their 40^th anniversary and a family dinner at the Fallsview Restaurant to celebrate their 50^th.  However to have the soul-mates revisit the exact spot where they honeymooned, the Sheraton on the Falls extended the room rates they paid as newlyweds of $6.00 per night.  The couple was also placed in one of the premier fallsview rooms in the hotel.
