Getting into shape is something you probably have at least a cursory interest in, regardless of whether or not you actually spend much time on the treadmill or lifting weights at the gym. Most North Americans know that daily exercise can lead to a higher quality of life — and a smaller pants size — but they also know that heading out for a regular and relaxing vacation can improve one’s quality of life, too.
Well, if you’re headed to the Niagara region for a relaxing vacation during the month of May, you have a unique opportunity to combine the two. The MindiO Fitness Extravaganza — one of the premier fitness expos and competitions — is set to take place at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, May 7th, 2016, and it boasts some of the most impressive people, vendors, and events in fitness. From the House of Hardcore to some of the celebrities who will be present, here is a little of what you can expect at May’s MindiO Fitness Extravaganza.
Within the sports and fitness world, some names garner more praise and attention than others, and this year’s MindiO event has some of the best. From Mindi O’Brien, founder of Team O’Brien Fitness and International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness Champion to Tommy Dreamer, founder of Hardcore Professional Wrestling, WWE alumnus, and Extreme Champion Wrestling World Champion, there are more than enough world-class athletes, bodybuilders, and fitness experts to wow you and inspire you to get in better shape.
House of Hardcore
House of Hardcore is a Tommy Dreamer-run professional wrestling event that hearkens back to the glory days of American professional wrestling. Live and altogether unique entertainment, the House of Hardcore events at MindiO will feature explosive and fascinating characters as well as crafty storylines full of surprise twists. For anyone who loves sports with a hefty dose of drama, House of Hardcore will make for a fun event.
The centerpiece of the MindiO Fitness Extravaganza, and one of its most exciting components is that it’s the site of the Ontario Physique Association (OPA) Provincial Qualifier. The prejudge morning show gets started at 8 a.m. with athletes from all over Ontario. The finals take place later that day from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you’ve never witnessed a bodybuilding or fitness competition in person before, it’s a remarkable thing to behold as men and women of exceptional fitness work to out-pose one another before the judges.
Tickets and More Info
Each of the events throughout the day has its own ticket price, or, if you know you want to get in on a little of everything, you can get an all-day pass for $99. If you’re taking more of an a la carte approach, tickets are as follows:
- OPA Provincial Qualifier — Prejudge from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. is $35. Children 12 and under are $10.
- OPA Provincial Qualifier — Finals from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. is $50. Children under 12 are $10.

Get inspired toward greater fitness or just have a great time doing something unusual during your Niagara vacation. Whichever way you slice it, the MindiO Fitness Extravaganza promises to be a day of fun unlike any other.
